Metro Refresh and DRM update…
Apologises for the delay something came up…
On with the show…
Metro, now for those of you who have been following this blog they will have read the review that I did on the game. I have been playing it quite a lot more since then and am still very very impressed with it. There is a lot of Varity in the game and I don’t think I have encountered a game for quite some time where weapon choice makes a massive difference. I have just been using an air powered arrow rifle for want of a better description. Silent and deadly, hiding in the shadows pumping up the pressure then silently nailing a guy to the wall…so cool…
I have been able to manipulate the graphics slightly since I got my g890 (original review was on the Commanche SLI – Clevo M980Nu) so that it is running on very high in dx 9 mode at 1600x1000. This gives a general better appearance then high on dx10 at 1920x1080 which is what I was running at. Average frame rates are anywhere from high twenties to high forties but the game is perfectly playable. Resolution plays a big part in this game, if you are prepared not to run at 1920x1080 then its worth dropping it 1 or 2 notches.
Longevity, this is always a problem with single player games is that once completed is there replay value without a multiplayer mode, well to be honest I don’t know yet! I have sunk 12 hours or so into the game comfortably and don’t appear to be near the end yet. I have read about people completing it really quickly and yes I imagine there are those people out there. But they will have missed so much out of the game its not even funny, they will have missed all the little charms and nooks and crannys to play in. Things that make this game such a work of art.
I have included a few more pics for you all and will be putting 2 new videos on youtube shortly.
DRM update
Well I brought a copy of Silent Hunter V and Assassins Creed 2 after Amazon slashed the price, a little bird told me that is due to the stock they pre-brought for these two never shifted. So they just sold them off cheap to clear the stock of them. What does this mean for the DRM and Ubi’s approach to the game? Well if the wholesalers and larger stores are not keeping stock of them it doesn’t bode well for the sales figures does it?
Well Silent Hunter 5 is very very good, love it to bits, big fan of Silent Hunter III and IV was ok but still played it, was devastated with the DRM that they decided to use. So far only had one interrupt with the DRM kicking in the game auto saved and said attempting to reconnect or to quit to windows. Within 10 seconds the game was backup and running.
Overall the game isn’t killed but the DRM but I am still not fan and had I not been able to buy both AC2 and SH5 for under £25 for both of them I wouldn’t have bothered.
Kobalt G890
I am writing a review for these and because of bios issues etc I haven’t been able to complete it yet. I have done videos and a few benches, this is abit of a request. As most of you know I have pretty much every game under the sun is there anything specific you would like me to include in the review? Benches etc…if so let me know before Thursday as I intend to upload everything on Friday.
