View Full Version : Compare your benchmarks (3dmark06 & Vantage) [Feedback & Chat]
Can all Benchmarks be posted HERE (http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=825) so they are easier to view for everyone.
Can this thread below only be used for benchmark feedback ONLY
as it says in the header lets compare all our Kobalt systems benchmarks.
now the new 260 & 280 graphics cards are on their way very soon it would be good to see how everyone compares.
if you havnt got them yet you will need 3dmark06 & Vantage. Vantage can only be used once and then you will have to buy. it cost me $25 so about £16
If you get a high CPU/GPU score in Vantage you may need to disable Phsyx as this gives off a false overall score.

UPDATE:
We have tested these but came across a couple of niggles, will see how they get on over the weekend before giving the official Kobalt approval
im testing the 185.81 drivers and the ones you posted are most prob the same but official release ones.
i might have to delete your post with the drivers as they need to be tested by Kobalt first.
if they caused problems to your computer it might not be covered by the warranty until they had fully been tested.
Ok, no problem, I did not realise.
By the way, which drivers do the new GTX 260M ship with?

And of course your's is watercooled which I would have liked but cost exceeded my budget, and more bling which i'm not really a fan of.
Yeah Sam nice spec should be interesting to compare benchmarks.
I also went for 1800 ram thanks to Neil's guidance.
Man... Why can't you just give me your £ so I can get a nice rig aswell :( Also, yes I did check it out, was dissapointed, wanted to link you the google earth sattelite image of your house saying "I'm watching you" :(

:D lol that would have been good.
Well it was a toss up between a new Kobalt laptop or a new PC my Viao is only a year old whereas my Shuttle is over 3 yrs old so the PC it was. I wish I could have afforded both but alas the laptop will have to wait.
Definatley getting it from here though in the future.
Yeah good reasoning there, also a desktop will serve you better if you don't need gaming abilities on your laptop at the moment. I'm about to sell my desktop, though I doubt I'll get more than £500 for it.. such a shame since it's not that shabby at all and can play almost all games at max, but I guess that's the tech market for ya. Just really need a laptop for this coming fall so I guess I gotta take the punch and sell it for less then I'd really like to :p

Yeah that's the problem with PC tech you just can't keep up and it costs so much. I generally try to make my PC last about 3 years i normally build them myself but this time I thought that I would treat myself to something really special.
Gotta say went with this company because Andrew and Neil seem great guys and their support is the best i've come across in all these years.
Yeah, I bet mine would last 3 years or so, Q6600, 1GB GDDR5 ATI 4870, 4 GB DDR2 @ 1066Mhz on a Gigabyte P45 mobo..
Yeah that's one of the best things with Kobalt as far as I have experienced.. CS is beyond great and everyone's friendly and helpful, also it's not just throwing your money into the big companies which already make trillions.

That's a pretty good spec Azuricate those Q6600 overclock like crazy don't they what you running yours at?
Seeing as I know almost nothing about OCing though I've read up on it a bit lately I only have it at 3.0 and my friend was watching over my shoulder making sure I didnt crap up the bios while trying to OC :p When I get to my good pc tonight I'll see if I can't bring it up to 3.4 or something, air cooled though so don't want to go too crazy.. got a zalman120 to cool it though in a antec 1200 case so not bad air cooling :p

That's some good cooling and a great case for airflow you should be able to achieve that clock quite comfortably.:)
I will be installing my OCZ Vertex 250GB into it soon to see how fast Vista can boot?! :)
Yeah it's good 'n I'll post how it went later tonight ^^ it's a great case for cooling but for me it's not that good seeing as I live in one place on weekdays and another on weekends, thus the need for a laptop, and ofc for studies ;)
On your Nexus, Andy?

I'm well jealous that will fly.

On your Nexus, Andy?
Yeah i'll be interested in the results.
What are you studying Azuricate because i'm also at uni at the moment doing my Masters in business administration?
Will do, I think I better put all my fans on max before I try though, will sound like a vacuum cleaner xD I'll read some guides as well but hopefully I'll get some good results!
Seeing as I've yet to decide what path to take in life I'm basicly reading all different subjects, small courses to get more choises in uni educations when I do choose which way to go. English is my "best" subject by far, I like it, it's easy and I get good grades but I wouldn't want to teach (notice I'm not from England :p) so I'll see in a year or two how I can proceed with my studies ^^.
Edit: wow...walls of text... I apologise but I guess that's what I do when I'm supposed to be writing an essay and can't get started :p
On your Nexus, Andy?
Yeah,
I did have it installed on my Dell XPSM1530 for about 3 days (just to benchmark the Vertex) and that absolutely flew so I am dieing to see what it will be like in the Nexus too. :D

That's a mature approach to education. Wish I had been that sensible when I was younger wouldn't have to be the only old git in the class now then. :o
Ooh that's very nice, I can't wait to see your results! By the way are you running Vista or W7? Because W7 takes better care of your SSD, overall performance is better and TRIM works better (or is integrated?) I read some article about it but can't seem to find it now..
Edit: Founds it! http://hothardware.com/Articles/Windows-7-Disk-Performance-Analyzed/

You are correct, W7 does treat SSD's much better than Vista. However all if not most of the tweaks can be applied manually in Vista so the SSD runs just as good in Vista as W7. Thats why it will take me a few days to get some "proper" benchmarks up. TRIM will be integrated into W7 however tha last time I checked the current Vertex SSD firmware (1.10) does not support it (it only supports the manual TRIM tool that is downloadable from the OCZ forum).
Ah okay, too bad that the firmware doesn't support it ... although according to that article Windows 7 is still superior in optimizing SSD's but then again they could be wrong :) I can't wait to see your results as I hope to one day put a SSD in my upcoming laptop. btw did you buy the SSD separately or directly from Kobalt?

All that W7 does is semi-automatically (you have to run WEI to get it to recognise you have an SSD) change some of the settings such as:
1. Disable weekly defragmention
2. Disable Prefetch
3. Disable Superfetch
4. Disable Drive Indexing
There are also a few more but cant remember them atm (im having a dumb day ).
EDIT:
There are also many helpful tweaks that you can apply the W7 doesnt do such as moving the page file, moving IE7 cache, moving FF cache, moving the temp folder and moving the log files all too another storage drive. Then there is also RAMdrives, but we wont go into that here.....;)
END EDIT.
I bought my SSD from another vender, but I only bought it from them because I wanted to get it before my Nexus arrived. The place I got it actually charge more than kobalt. Also the Vertexs are becoming extremely hard to get hold of, I think in most cases in America they are on back order (form what I have read on the OCZ forum).
Alright, my bad then ^^ although my personal opinion is that Windows 7 is smoother over-all ;)
Yeah alright, here in Sweden they arn't that hard to come by at all, ofcourse they'll cost you your soul but many stores have them, granted the 120GB and 250GB versions are more "rare". I saw some Vertexs on Ebay for like ... half the price they charge here in Sweden.. was so tempted to buy 2x 60GB or one 120 :p
Forgot to change the configuration... I have updated my system since the order and the system hasn't changed it yet.

Yeah I know the feeling you have to have a cut off point somewhere. I configured a WC dream system and it came out at over 5K
Wish I had the funds to buy it but had to come back to reality.:(
Yeah, well my original budget was 1.4k 8-)
Eeek.
Mine was about 2k looks like we both went over.:)
Just a little.....1.4k to 3k.....mmmm.
Oh yeah, and I need a new monitor xD.

Haha yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
Sorrryyyyyy. Haha.
no probs mate.
same thing happened on nbr and i had over 300 posts and looking for the actual benchmarks was a nightmare so it soooo much easier this way.

dont worry Matt, it gives me something to do,lol.:D
It always happens :S
Is there no way to have the thread with just the benchmarks then have a duplicate, where people can make comments which automatically updates when new benchmarks are posted?
Or even better, an option to show/hide comments on each benchmark?
That would be cool (H).

you must have heat stroke Sam. thats what ive been doing HERE (http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=825) :p:o
Haha nooooo. I meant one that AUTOMATICALLY updates ;)
The show hide/comments for each benchmark would be great though, IMO.
ahh i see. i must have heatstroke then, lol.
not sure if forums can do that.
lets let Neil figure that one out.:)
Yes, I think so. ;)
I don't think they can to be honest...I have about 3/4 years experience on forum and I don't think I've come accross one that can. Especially not vBulletin.
I think that there are some 'free to start up' kind of forums that will do it. But I think that's where it stops.
I have updated my benchmarks to include some startup and shutdown times now that the SSD has been installed and tweaked. However I do hope to further reduce the startup time with a few more tweaks. The benchmarks can be found in the Benchmark results only thread that MRDJ linked above.
