"Despite its semi-portable size, the Nexus can easily rival bigger gaming notebooks and is one of the most powerful machines we've seen to date"

"Impressive specification - In addition to it's powerful GPU, the Nexus has one of the most powerful processors - Intel's 2.54GHz Core 2 Duo P9500 chip - and 4096MB of memory. We found everday performance to be reasonable, with little sign of lag when running processor-intensive applciations.."

"The NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS graphics card is a cutting-edge chip, and provides enough performance to play the latest games with ease."

"The Kobalt Nexus is an impressive compromise between power and portability, it offers performance to rival much bigger machines, yet you'll still be able to take it around with you"

Performance - 8/10
Features - 8/10
Build Quality - 7/10
Value For Money - 7/10

Verdict: 8/10

What Laptop Silver Award Winner (second only to a Crossfire £2500 laptop)

EDIT - added What Laptop and Techradar links

Battery Life - This is taken directly from the What Laptop article but as it's part of the group test it isn't on the above website links:

Battery Life - Office = 141 minutes (The typical battery life of the laptop when running on High Performance setings)

Battery Life - DVD = 127 minutes (The typical battery life of the laptop when running on Lower Performance settings)

Congratulations Andrew & Neil

in other words it would have been a gold award winner if it was up against a same priced competitor and not a £800 dearer model.

as ive said all along and it has been quoted on various forums.

"The Nexus is the Dogs Dangley Bits"

Well done on a good review!

@MrDJ, Don't you mean in other words, if Kobalt released a model based on the OCZ whitebook and sent them that they would have Gold and Silver :P

Hopefully you'll get around to sending the review model out soon as the Novatech one has to go back soon. It is pretty good but sadly has a lit pixel :( I hope Kobalt can do a little better!

He he, though if we had sent in a Comanche SLI it would have won Gold, Silver and Bronze:)

We don't know if the laptops we submit will be reviewed seperately or in a group test, though I think what the review does very well is to pick out the best points of all the machines. More often than not we will send a gaming laptop out for review and though the review is usually pretty good the conclusion is normally that you can buy a desktop for less. Of course that's always true but What Laptop? actually realise that people looking for a gaming laptop know that already and so want to be told which is best, not told to buy something else!!!

Cant believe they awarded it 2nd place over that crossfire laptop. The Crosswire benchmarks from what ive seen are worse than nvidia's 8800GT (some benchmarks are about equal). Alienware are hyping Crossfire like its the best thing out, i dont understand why? And their new crossfire laptop is slightly more expensive compared the nexus (equivelant custom spec's).

I know this may make me sound like some Kobalt fanboy, but im not lol. Ive just done alot of reading about this stuff, and which is why im deffinetly getting a Comanche sometime this month :) dam credit card limit...
