when i first came to this site months ago i remember reading about members coming up for names for your new laptops. in the end you decided on the Nexus because other names were copyrighted.

well i just checked my email and was in shock when i saw this email from mesh computers.

they are selling a laptop called Nexus

ill send this to you by email as well.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Rather cheeky considering we launched ours a good 2 months ago, and we were very careful to choose a name that had not be using for anything in IT before. People not in the know may well get confused. We shall fight them on the beeches.. etc etc :p Stay tuned.

It's not actually even a MESH laptop, it is a Zepto product who are Danish.

We will indeed be taking action over this - I actually took a call today about our NEXUS and the comment made about having to speak Danish to order it now makes sense:eek: So the Confusion has already started.

BTW I would post this on NBR to make people aware but recent changes to the reseller rules on the forum mean that we can no longer start new threads.

EDIT - and thanks MrDJ for pointing it out:)

It even came out in Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/01/zepto-unleashes-potent-nexus-a15-gaming-laptop/

EDIT: Actually, if you look for "nexus laptop" on google, the only thing you will find is the Zepto laptop!!!

MrDJ

When mine comes, I'm going to call it Boby! :)

How serious is this? Did Kobalt registered the name? What does this imply?

MrDJ

Boby :) i think you need to sit in a padded room for a while mate. LMFAO.:D:D

when Andrew & Neil were asking for names for this computer quite a lot of members posted loads and in the end Nexus was decided as quite a few of the others were already used so i think they did do a thorough check first to find out about copyright.

But was Kobalt Nexus registered?

What consequences can this have?

I hope this won't influence anything on the delivery of our laptops...

Let's just call it Kobalt Cristiano Ronaldo. "As fast as they come!" :D

Neil / Andrew,

It might be worth applying for a trademark... i believe it only costs around £200

i would of thought this would of been the first thing they done henry.

This won't affect anyones laptop delivery or anything like that so don't worry.

As you can imagine it would cost a fair bit to trademark every system name and variation etc so we don't do it for every system.

I can't really comment on this too much but trademarking is something that I know a fair bit about and I can quite safely say that it will not be us that need to rename our laptop.
