View Full Version : Nexus heat problems?
1) From what I've heard, the Nexus tends to get a bit warm, especially on the right side. What is this caused by? 7200 rpm HD's or maybe the GPU?
2) I would really like to use SSD, and I was soo happy when I found out about the reasonably priced 128 gb OCZ SSD. But this indicates a lot of issues with the drive: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=280597
What is your oppinion about it?
3) Is there any difference in heat production between the 9800 GT & GTS?
Thx for the advise ;-)

Hi
The HDD "issues" seem to have been hyped up a little too far and it's understandable why people are questioning them (based on some reports) but there really is no problem at all. In answer to your questions above:
1/ The Nexus gets warm in the same way that the Mojave and Comanche get warm - they are very powerful notebooks/desktop replacements and so will run hotter than conventional notebooks. There is nothing to worry about heat wise at all, it's just a side effect of performance:)
2/ Take a look here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=286745&highlight=OCZ+SSD for results with OCZ SSDs. I have been testing the drives here and swapping results with the OCZ tech guys - the only issue is that they don't like RAID in the Comanche chassis, other than that they are absolutely fine. We have sold a fair number in Comanches and Mojaves with no probs - you will find that most people that report problems with them have installed them themselves and either their hardware can't support them or they have selected the wrong options in the BIOS.
The actual issue is that the RAID controller in the Comanche (D901C) can't cope with the way Vista writes data to HDDs (which is different to the way XP) - in RAID Vista ideally needs a hardware controller with onboard RAM to aid the buffering process so it's really a problem with Vista and which RAID controller you use them with - the SSDs are solid:)
3/ I haven't taken confirmed temperature readings but the GTS will run marginally cooler.
